About Us
What's in the name?
Udaipur refers to it’s birth-place, Urja (Energy in Hindi) refers to the collective energy of it’s people – the core team as well as the members. Initiatives of the enterprise are fueled by the collective energy of it’s people.
Beginnings . . .
. . . a major contributor to the rural-urban divide in India is the lack of access to market mechanisms and means of adoption of technology due to economic, socio-cultural and knowledge barriers. Such deprivation is a major impediment to prosperity and fulfillment, both individual and social.
The foundation of UUIPCL was laid through the cook-stove project, aimed towards environment protection, improved livelihood and income generation. The Board of Directors (BOD) comprised of 6 members from the community and 2 expert directors. It was an arduous task, registering the project under it’s belt, but with support from community partners, institutional buyers and external partners, the project was rolled-out in Kherwara and Rishavdeo blocks of Udaipur district. A strong community-support base facilitated by Seva Mandir helped establish trust between UUIPCL and it’s members. To tackle the financial barrier of households, the project was designed to use carbon finance and was registered with UNFCCC and Gold Standard. It was soon expanded across three more blocks namely Jhadol, Girwa and Sarada. Currently, UUIPCL has a membership base of 18500 + households and 120 + women monitors enrolled in the project.
